Polystyrene vs western red cedar hives for damp Yorkshire winters

First winter coming up in North Yorkshire. The weather here is basically four straight months of 4°C to 7°C, drizzle, and 90% humidity. My two colonies are in traditional cedar National hives on open mesh floors. My woodwork feels damp to the touch on the outside, and I keep hearing local beekeepers rave about high-density poly hives (like Paradise or Maisemore) because they don't hold water like timber and prevent condensation under the roof. Is the condensation difference really that noticeable between wood and poly in wet maritime climates? I'm tempted to buy poly brood boxes for the spring, but wooden kit is so much nicer to handle and scrape. Any long-term comparisons?

I run 35 Nationals up in Perthshire, half cedar and half dense poly. Poly stays bone dry inside all winter, full stop. With cedar in wet winters you get black mould on the flank combs unless your top insulation is thick. Cedar looks lovely, poly winters better.
