White wax everywhere and the clover is pumping — is this the best week of the season?
Went through my 8 production colonies in Skåne yesterday and every single box smells like warm honey. Fresh white wax on the top bars, burr comb between boxes full of nectar, bees festooning in the supers drawing foundation like it's free. The white clover here is wall to wall this year after all the June rain, and lime (linden) is just starting too.
Added a fifth super to my two strongest — they filled the fourth in nine days. When the bees are whitening the comb like this you basically cannot over-super, they need the space just to dry nectar.
Eight years in and this week is why I keep doing it. Anyone else's flow going stupid right now, or is it just southern Sweden having a moment?

Meanwhile Perthshire is sat in drizzle waiting on the heather. Enjoy it for the rest of us. Agree on the supering though — under-supering during a flow is how folk end up with swarms in July.

Ivy is opening early down here — leave it for the bees or race the crystallisation?
First ivy flowers are opening around Cork a week or so ahead of usual, and the bees found them before I did. Which means it's time for the annual ivy argument, so let's h…

My scale hive gained 8 kg in one week off goldenrod — the data is beautiful
Third year in North Carolina, first year with a hive scale, and I finally get why people obsess over these things. The goldenrod turned on around August 25th and my scale…
